About Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter and sculptor widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, co-founder of the Cubist movement that radically transformed European painting and sculpture. Born in Malaga, Spain, a child prodigy trained by his artist father, he moved to Paris as a young man, where he progressed through his melancholic Blue Period and warmer Rose Period before developing Cubism alongside Georges Braque, fracturing objects into geometric planes viewed from multiple perspectives simultaneously. Astonishingly prolific and constantly reinventing his style throughout a career spanning nearly eight decades, Picasso worked across painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and stage design, producing an estimated fifty thousand artworks. His 1937 painting 'Guernica,' a monumental depiction of the horrors of the Spanish Civil War bombing of the same name, became one of the most powerful anti-war statements in art history.
